The following services are available on a limited basis. Please contact Susan directly at susan@susansloate.com for more information, a project quote, and to schedule phone consultations on all projects:
When you have a project you want to see written but don't have the time or training to write it yourself, ask me about writing it for you! I've ghostwritten a number of published and soon-to-be published books, and I can offer excellent writing/editing services, with a market-ready manuscript at the end of it, along with total confidentiality! Please note that I can only write one project at a time, so if you want a book or story ghostwritten, let me know as soon as possible so we can discuss and schedule it. My ghostwriting services include a lengthy phone consultation on the best way to bring your project to market, along with detailed step-by-step instructions on self-publishing, if that's your preference.
I'm also available for high-level developmental editing and final copy editing of short stories or novels. In a developmental edit, I provide extensive detailed notes about what works and what doesn't in your project, along with suggestions to improve structure, characterization, theme and plot. In a final copy edit, I go over every line of your work for spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency, as well as cutting unnecessary text (writing is rewriting!).
One-on-one consultations about your book project, with Susan recommending specific tools and companies to help you raise your profile as an author and publish and market yourself and your book(s). Discussions address your specific concerns, and can include writing instruction, plot and character development, and/or conversations about writing business, including publishing options, acquiring an agent, marketing a book from scratch and tax implications for writers. Rates begin at $150/hour. Discounts for multiple sessions are available; ask about our 3-, 4- or 5-session packages.
Looking for a developmental edit, with honest and precise notes on all aspects of your writing project, including structure, theme, plot, character, historical detail and more? Susan has more than thirty-five years' experience in providing lengthy, detailed and helpful notes for writers to use in rewriting their work for maximum commercial viability. She can provide specific recommendations for changes on novels, screenplays, stage plays, and nonfiction projects, and final copy editing as well, once the project has been revised and is ready for publication. Cost for either type of edit is based on project length, word count and estimated reading time. Use the contact form on the home page to inquire about your project.
Susan's formal story training began at the University of Southern California, where she studied cinema history, film production, screenwriting and story analysis in their world-famous Cinema School and wrote her own first screenplays. She continued her post-graduate studies with the best story structure teachers on earth: Robert McKee, John Truby and Michael Hauge, and in addition, spent two years in Robert McKee's screenwriters' workshop in Los Angeles, where she helped to develop the now-classic GROUNDHOG DAY.
In 2015 and 2016 she held two highly successful local playwriting workshops with budding playwrights, who submitted scenes from their unfinished plays; she brought in actors and directors to perform them and then led the critique process, encouraging the playwrights to rewrite immediately based on the workshop critiques. The workshops were enormously successful, and we look forward to running them again soon (if not in person then perhaps through Zoom or some similar platform).
